As with many races featuring a huge field at Cheltenham, the William Hill National Hunt Handicap Chase can throw up a surprise as was the case in 2007 when Joes Edge won at odds of 50/1. In general since 2000 the odds of the winner for this race went off at under 10/1 and this suggests that mostly one of the leading players comes out on top, so in general a William Hill Handicap tip is to check out the first few in the betting.
History also suggests that favourites do not have a great record as we have to go back to 1994 to find the last favourite to win this race and this was Antonin who won at odds of 4/1.
With the horses running over three miles in this event stamina is obviously the key characteristic to look for in your selection and as always try to look for a horse that can act on the going that day.
The odds for this race usually do not take shape until the last couple of weeks before the race as trainers plans are not finalised until quite late. We will be putting up our William Hill Handicap Chase odds when the online bookmakers start to offer prices
We will be assessing the form of the race as the key contenders build up to their Cheltenham festival race and you can get all the information on the form of the leading candidates in our William Hill Handicap Chase form section.
We shall be displaying the 2008 William Hill Handicap Chase result as soon as the race is run and this will be added to our William Hill Chase previous winners roll of honour
